Fly away, Firefly!

Remember when we were kids and catching "lightning bugs" was a big deal?
Mom gave us a Mason jar with holes in the lid
and grass in the bottom to keep them in.
I used to stare at them for hours, wondering what makes them glow do beautifully.
My Grandmother has a birthday this week,
so I used this idea for her special day card.

This is a large easel card measuring 6.5 x 6.5".
I knew I would not have to mail it so size was not an issue.

I started with a background paper made of clouds, accented it with a strip of plain white,
and embossed it all with the swirls CB folder.
The jar is from Doodlecharms.  It is cut in 4 layers with the top layer being a clear plastic.
This gives it the look of a real jar. Black pen accents add dimension.
The fireflies and sunflower are from SYI.  The flower is embossed with the swiss dots CB folder,
the stem is hand-cut, and the leaves are from HD.
White pen accents were added to the stem and leaves.
I used the word "explore" from HD to set the tone for the personal verse I will compose for the inside sentiment.  The small "waves" are leftovers from another project.
The corners have been rounded and the edges inked.

For the finishing touch, I added some coordinating baker's twine and button.
I will add a personal message and this project will be complete.
TFL!

  17. This is such a cute and creative idea! I loved catching fireflies when I was little and now my little ones do too! I used a mason jar then and now I actually give my kids a huge pretzel barrel to hold their bugs! They love it, because they can fit about 50 in there and they can fly around in the barrels! I love the colors of this beautiful card and I'm sure your grandmother will love her special card! Thank you for inking it up with us at My Craft Spot! I hope you'll join us again this week!
